An official opening will take place on Monday 2nd June 2008 at 2.30pm in the play area. The opening will be performed by Shaun Halfpenny. Those who have contributed to the design construction and funding of the area will be invited to attend. Please come along and give your support to the event. Refreshments will be available.

PAY PHONE IN CUMMERSDALE VILLAGE
BT are proposing to remove the pay phone from Cummersdale, they say its use no longer justifies the cost of keeping it. The Parish Council has been asked to comment, before we do so we would welcome your feed back on this proposal, your particular views with reasons why it should be kept will be helpful. Please, e-mail the Parish Clerk.

COMMUNITY PLAN GROUP

The Community Plan Group met for the first time on the 3rd March 2008 the aim of the group is to come up with an action plan for the community of Cummersdale. The plan needs to reflect the views and aspirations of the people in the parish, and to fit in with plans and strategies being considered by outside agencies, such as Carlisle City Council, Cumbria County Council, The Primary Care Trust.
The group will initially be meeting with various interested outside groups and talking to parishioners, we will also be planning a number of events to enable you to be able to share your ideas on what you would like to change in the community you live in. More information will be made available as plans are made.
Parish Councillors who have agreed to work on the plan are: Keith Mcintosh, Pauline Nicholson, Brian Child, Trevor Alinson, Warren Kerr. Volunteers who have been co-opted onto the group are as follows: Andy Clode, Sue Wrennall, Alison Davies, Joyce Corrieri, Brian Hetherington, Alan James.
We have been keen to try and ensure the group is representative of all areas of the parish, all age groups, and community groups, whilst drawing upon individual skills to help produce the plan.
The group will meet again on the 5 April 2008.

COMMUNITY VILLAGE HALL FEASIBILITY STUDY
The open meeting called to listen to views of parishioners in the Cummersdale community was well attended, with some 42 turning out to have a say. Judith Brown who is undertaking the study on behalf of the Parish Council in conjunction with the Conservation Trust, and the Trustees of the Hall, was able to listen to a healthy exchange of views from those parishioners present. In addition to views expressed at the meeting Judith will also be looking at responses from the questionnaires, and from those groups of users, potential users she has met with.
Her report is soon to be made available for the parish council and other parties to consider .

FOOTPATH SURVEY
The Parish Council have asked Mr Alan Lyne from the “Redspearlands Footpath Group” to assist with a survey of footpaths and bridleways in the Cummersdale Parish. He has kindly agreed to arrange for the group to walk all the paths and bridleways in our Parish to check them for any problems. He will report back to the Parish Council later this year which will enable anything that requires repair or maintenance to be dealt with.

WARNINGS FOR SPEEDERS IN CUMMERSDALE VILLAGE
An organisation called “Better Ways to School” will be looking at the speeding problem on Cummersdale Road and will, hopefully, be installing some speed warning devices on the road.
